GreenCape has published a resilience case study that reports on how the Oranjezicht City Farm (OZCF), a non-profit farming project of the SA Urban Food & Farming Trust has become a prime example of building resilient urban communities through circular food systems, creating benefits such as food waste diversion from landfill and its airspace costs, soil generation, job creation and a sense of community.
The case study discusses OZCF as a:
- A model for small scale urban farming in an urban residential context;
- A community led place-making intuitive that fosters social cohesion;
- A small decentralized solution to household and office food waste
