The SA Urban Food & Farming Trust has been supporting the City of Cape Town’s most recent composting project in Langa with training, technical advice and quality assurance from our Langa Agrihub. In the first 6 months this project has diverted 10 tons of organic waste from landfill and created short-term employment.

The project is now scaling up to add 400 households, working through local schools, and to have bicycle trailers moving the waste from the schools to the composting site.
The compost itself is being distributed via the Agrihub to community food gardens to support soil health and enable better crops to be grown by local farmers.
