The Big Issue: Food Sustainability Issue

The Big Issue South Africa for October-November is out, guest edited by two of our trustees, Sheryl Ozinsky and Kurt Ackermann. This special issue is focussed on food sustainability, in which the question “can a city feed itself?” is the connecting theme.

In addition to pieces penned by Sheryl and Kurt, enjoy thoughtful articles from Prof. Jane Battersby on why urban agriculture is not the only solution to food insecurity, Funmilola Adeniyi on why the constitutional right to food remains unrealised, and Nonhlanhla Joye on ways she is helping thousands grow food at home. Hear the stories from Abalimi Bezekhaya farmers, shared by Grace Stead, and those of Philippi, shared by Christopher D’Aiuto, and how Ashley Newell and Iming Lin are linking local farmers with local communities.

Available from vendors on street corners and across Cape Town through November 2020.
