CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: Join SAUFFT’s Board of Trustees and Lead Transformative Change in Urban Food Systems

The South African Urban Food and Farming Trust (SAUFFT) is expanding and diversifying its Board of Trustees.  We are inviting interested and qualified candidates to apply by completing the application form by 28 February 2025.

About SAUFFT:

Based in Cape Town, South Africa, SAUFFT is a non-profit organisation dedicated to strengthening vulnerable urban communities through food and farming. Today, with a staff of 14 and a projected FY25 budget of approximately R7.5 million,  the Trust:

  • Supports over 1200 informal farmers in vulnerable urban communities, 
  • Hosts the annual Food Indaba reaching an audience of nearly 60 million
  • Operates the well-known Oranjezicht City Farm
  • Develops grassroots leaders with catalytic potential, and 
  • Works through pan-African collaborations in food systems transformation across 15 African cities. 

SAUFFT is on track to strengthen the resilience and improve the well-being of over one million vulnerable urban residents in South Africa in the next ten years.   We are seeking trustees who can help shape and guide this next stage of growth. 

Established in 2014, the SAUFF Trust (Registered Trust IT20812/2014) is a non-profit public benefit organisation (PBO 930052666) with Section 18a tax-exempt status from the South African  Revenue Service (SARS).

Who we are looking for:

We are seeking committed individuals who align with our mission and bring expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Financial acumen
  • Community development
  • Multi-stakeholder engagement
  • Advocacy
  • Urban systems
  • Food systems
  • Climate change and adaptation
  • Fundraising and donor engagement

In addition to these skills, candidates should demonstrate:

  • Governance experience
  • Strategic thinking
  • Integrity and ethical leadership, and
  • Strong communication skills

Commitment Expectations:

Trustees are expected to serve for a minimum three year term, with a possibility of renewal. The role requires approximately 4-6 hours per month, including three board meetings per year, one of which is the Annual General Meeting (AGM).
