The SA Urban Food & Farming Trust joined other partners, researchers, practitioners, policymakers, students and educators in a three day symposium from 22 – 24 May 2024 celebrating a decade of outstanding achievements by the DSI-NRF Centre of Excellence in Food Security (COE-FS) in research, capacity building, knowledge brokerage and service provision in food and nutrition security to enable South Africa to effectively tackle food insecurity and all forms of malnutrition, and to promote sustainable food systems.
The symposium enabled a high-powered group of global leaders to converge and exchange innovative ideas that can drive sustainable food security solutions on the African continent.

SAUFFT was also pleased to participate in a panel discussion, “Impact for Who?”, along with Prof Mehita Iqani (SARChi Chair in Science Communication), Tauriq Jenkins (chair of the A/XARRA Resorative Justice Forum and High Commissioner of the Goringhaicona Khoi Khoin Traditional Indigenous Council), and others, unpacking key issues around community engagement, engaged scholarship, qualitative outcomes and impact measures, the importance of narrative and community voices, the challenges of interdisciplinary collaboration, and ways to translate complex research findings into impactful messages that resonate with both funders and the public.
