Kurt Ackermann is executive manager of the SA Urban Food & Farming Trust. He was co-founder, general manager, director and chairperson of the Oranjezicht City Farm, until its merger into the Trust in 2017.
Previously, Kurt spent a decade consulting to civil society organisations, government and the private sector on strategy, communications and management challenges for projects in energy and climate change, resource use and waste, conservation and sustainability, and education.
Before emigrating to South Africa in 2000, Kurt launched and led the Americas-based interactive business unit of the world’s largest PR agency before going on to co-found an independent mid-sized digital business consultancy.
Kurt is currently a research fellow at the Global Risk Governance Programme at the University of Cape Town and sits on the Food Systems Working Group for the City of Cape Town. He serves on the boards of several other non-profits in education, health and human rights.
Kurt holds an AB from The University of Chicago, and was a Business Fellow at Chicago’s Booth School of Business.
