Communications and Events Officer

The ideal candidate for this exciting and challenging position has a gift for storytelling, a passion for people, and a commitment to community development. They will enjoy helping others’ voices to be heard and be a detail-oriented professional communicator not afraid to try some new things that may not always work as expected. They will work happily with partners from across communities, across Africa and the globe, and thrive in the tension between in-person live events and carefully curated digital channels. They will have solid skills and know their craft, but be hungry to make the kind of impact that only comes from doing mission-driven work.

Please note that this is a full-time, Cape Town-based position, however some flexibility exists to allow for locations elsewhere in exceptional cases or for periods of time. Candidates must have a fully Internet-connected, functional, dedicated workspace at home for times when they may be required to work remotely.

Primary responsibilities for this challenging position include:

  • Coordinate and implement day-to-day and project-based communications across all SAUFFT’s areas of work in diverse formats in all channels
  • Organise a wide range of events and workshops
  • Manage and maintain the websites and social media channels of the organisation
  • Monitor and track communications and events outcomes and impacts, prepare reports and participate in strategic planning
  • Curate and grow a collection of visual, audio and video assets
  • Coordinate projects involving media and creative agencies and project partners
  • Provide administrative support as required from time to time

Required minimum training and work experience:

  • 3+ years’ experience in communications and events
  • 1+ year experience with social media platforms in a professional (i.e., not personal) capacity
  • Computer literate in MS Office, E-mail, Calendar and internet browsers, use of G Suite/Google Workspace or similar cloud-based file sharing and collaborative software, experience with WordPress.
  • Use of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Canva or similar graphic design tools
  • Experience editing video and audio
  • Experience working with content relating to sustainability, food, agriculture, community development, education or similar fields

What SAUFFT offers:

SAUFFT provides the opportunity to work with an established and well-known NGO entering a period of expansion. Compensation offered will be based on experience and qualifications, considering the constraints of the non-profit sector.
